Here are our top five places to visit for a great walk in and around Cambridge. All with gorgeous views and many with cafes to sit, recharge, rest your weary feet with a cuppa and maybe even a cake or two (all to be walked off later of course!)

Wandlebury Woods and The Gog Magog Hills

South of Cambridge City Centre lies Wandlebury Woods – the woods offer fabulous walks through woodland and meadows, with stunning views… it’s a great place for all the family including the dog.

If the weather is kind to you, take a picnic or visit the amazing Gog Magog Farm Shop just up the road for a bit of retail therapy and enjoy a pit stop in their fabulous cafe for a sausage roll.

Anglesey Abbey

Owned by the National Trust, this historic abbey can boast over 900 years of history and is a great house to mooch around for an hour or two. It also has a mill that produces flour, 114 acres of grounds and a winter walk for you to explore, including the Hoe Fen Wildlife Discovery Area for children to build dens, climb wooden forts and hang out in the activity area.

As with all NT properties, it has a great cafe offering hot and cold food, cakes and drinks… including their famous scones.

Cambridge Backs

This walk has been voted one of the most spectacular walks in Britain. 

Following the banks of the River Cam, this stunning walk follows the backs of some of the most beautiful and iconic colleges in Cambridge, the most famous being King’s College Chapel.

You can then stroll into the city centre to take advantage of the many restaurants, cafes and historical sights that Cambridge offers.

Grantchester Meadows

Start your walk from Silver Street, in the centre of Cambridge and follow the River Cam across green flood plain and meadows to the stunning village of Grantchester – famous for the filming of the television programme of the same name. This village is quintessentially English, lovely to stroll around with a great selection of pubs, all serving good beer and food.

Wimpole Hall

Visit one of the largest estates in Cambridgeshire, boasting the largest country house in the county.

A National Trust gem, it has open parkland, wonderful for walks with the kids and the dog as well. Home Farm – Wimpole’s very own farm with rare breed sheep, shire horses, cattle and pigs and an adventure playground. And of course, a great cafe!
