Halloween at Home
October 1, 2020

Kids have had to miss out on a lot this year during the pandemic, haven’t they? And whilst things are slowly starting to lift and open, there are some things that just won’t return to ‘normal’ this year. Halloween probably being one of them, with trick or treating most likely be off the menu. So we’ve thought of some fun, spooky things you can do at home so this will be one occasion that does not need to be missed out on this year.

Toilet Paper Mummies

We’re probably all bored with hearing about the stress of toilet paper this year so let’s use it for something fun with the kids instead! Take a roll and take it in turns wrapping each other up like mummies, which you could then keep on to take part in the treasure hunt below.

Trick or Treat Treasure Hunt

Whilst you may not want the kids to go door-to-door this year, you can instead hide small sweets and treats around the house with clues for them to find. Don’t make them all treats though, it wouldn’t be Halloween if you didn’t sneak in a chocolate-covered brussel sprout as a trick!

Pumpkin Painting

We’ve probably all got some old poster paints in the house that could be great for painting pumpkins as an alternative to putting out a carved and lit one. Pinterest is a great source of ideas from cartoon characters to funky patterns or even try one using glow in the dark paint. Send us your best creations and we’ll share the best ones online!

Monster Movie Night

This is a great idea for slightly older kids or just for yourself, streaming services will be full of Halloween classics throughout October so why not try a home cinema night? Pick a spooky film or two, pop some popcorn, pour the hot chocolate and watch a film in the dark under a blanket for that extra cosy feeling.

Fright Night Feast

A spooky buffet is always a winner and you can get really creative with both the table decorations and the food. Skull goblets, spider’s web table cloths and sparkly pumpkins set the scene without costing the earth. For some Halloween themed buffet treats you could try ghost fruit kebabs, tangerine pumpkins, spider web iced doughnuts and even stuffed pepper pumpkins! Put on a spooky playlist, dim the lights and you’ve got yourselves a feast to enjoy.
