When did the Filling Station open?

What sort of things do you offer at the Filling Station?
We are a Craft Beer Shop selling 10 different draught beers and a range of canned and bottled beers from over 120 different breweries. We fill 1 and 2-litre US-style Glass Growlers from our state of the art Growler Filling Station. We primarily support local breweries and pride ourselves on bringing you craft beers that you won’t find anywhere else.

Can you tell us more about the journey you have been on and how the idea of Filling Station came about?
I worked for Carlsberg for 23 years and noticed a change in drinking habits, with people wanting higher-quality beers and drinking at home a lot more. I knew that great draught beer at home wasn’t being addressed properly and a lot of local breweries were not getting the airtime that they deserved. I had also worked with businesses in the past that had developed shipping container bars and restaurants, Finally, I had seen how popular Growler Shops were in the US and Australia. I then put all of these points together and designed the Filling Station during the summer of 2020.

With years of experience in the beer industry, do you have any advice for someone who may be thinking of starting a microbrewery?
It’s an incredible marketplace, but it’s an incredibly crowded marketplace. Therefore my advice would be to do something completely different with the beer you are producing or how you tell the story of your brewery. It needs to be completely something left field to cut through the crowd at the moment.

If you could recommend one craft beer that everyone should try, what one would you choose and why?
This is a tough question, I love so many different styles and breweries and they change by the week. Right now, I am really enjoying some double IPA’s from a brewery called Pressure Drop, and they have a fantastic beer called Behind Door Number 3, which is just
fantastic! What exciting beers have you got coming up this Autumn? We will have lots of great darker beers coming on for the winter season to match the change in weather, think big roasty ales and dark stouts!
